Question 1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9ceBgWV8io

What codes and conventions come across in the trailer?

The narrative of the trailer is Non-linear; this is to show parts of the movie that the director thinks will attract the audience. Also there is the release date of the movie which is very normal for movie trailers to have. Furthermore lots of action and enigma codes are raised in the trailer for instance who will win the war, and who’s side is the main character on? Also there are parts that are left unclear as to what will happen next like when the main woman attacks a soldier. This is common in trailers as this will leave the audience wondering what happens and they will feel like they have to see it. A lot of enigma codes are also raised for instance how did the main character get in a wheelchair, and also why are they attacking the Navi ( the blue people)?
There is a lot of dramatic music in the beginning that means that right from the start of the trailer the audience feels the tension. Then it becomes much faster which conveys danger.  The side the hero is on appears to be a lot weaker than the opposing side, this is done so that if they do win it will feel like a bigger win.
They have movies that the director has made before like the titanic and ect… This is found in most trailers as people that have seen their movies will kind of know what to expect and if they have liked their previous movies they will want to watch this new movie. What’s interesting is that normally they have a lot of credits but the only person mentioned in this trailer was James Cameron, I think that they have done that as they would like to portray to the audience that he was the main person that made this movie and takes most of the credit for it as that is only fair. But this could alienate others as they could see it as him being greedy and not give any credit to all the other people that helped make it.
