Mr Murdoch
To Mr Murdoch
I am aware of how you are running a business and need to finacially support it and by the new development in e-media this might affect your revenue, so I can understand where you are coming from when you feel the need to charge for services online. However that does not give you the right to try and undermine producers that are giving news for free.
As I am personally a big fan of the BBC I feel that looking at what they are meant to be doing and the government onjectives set for them it would be unfare to suddently charge for their service and by you asking them to do that has lead to people thinking that they are doin it just to remain competivie, however I khow that the only reason that you are doing this yourself is to carry on having a monopoly in the news industry and you see them and others giving free contents as a threat.
I would ask you to reconsider how you approach these producers as it is unfair and I believe it should stop
thank you for your time

virtual revolution part 2
Tim berners lee, the founder of the WWW said that he made the web to connect people.
some African farmers have used the web to learn better and more efficient farming techniques, they have also used it to check the prices of other farming produce to establish their prices.
The first people that used it where blown away by the possibility that it could abandon government systems and control.
The WWW also gave way for businesses to make massive amounts of money which would become the second reason for it to exist.
example of this is Napster created by shawn Funning who made a website that allowed people to download and share music files world wide. however it was shut down in 2001
you tube's fist video was in 2005 and now they have over 1,000 videos uploaded a day world wide.
Blogs- The Huffington post is known world wide as the biggest blogger website however it restricts what people can blog about and also edits other peoples blogs which is the opposite of what blogs where meant for. There are 130million blogs and now over 90% of those are unused.
Now the internet has come a long way from where it first started as it was a space where people could get away from all the big corporate control and now its looking more and more like a structured system. As you have the corporate giants like google getting over 28million searchs each month.
some people argue that it mirrors in equality in the real world and I dont think they are far from the truth.

Question 4
How is the institution portrayed in the trailer?
The institution plays a big part in how viewers will see the movie. 20th century fox is one of the biggest institutions that are around. It has had many brilliant and classic movies and I believe that this says a lot in what the audience will expect to see in the movie. As it is a well known and liked institution people will know that this movie is going to be a good one and possible another timeless classic.
Question 3
How does the trailer attract its target audience?
The main way it attracts the audience is due to people being able to identify with the main characters, this is because they may have been in a situation that required them to decide if they should or shouldn’t do the right thing. Also they will be able to get a person identity as they might realize what side they would be on and why. This would make them more interested in seeing the film as they feel like they have already interacted with it and would like to see how it turns out.
Also they may get a sense of escapism as their tension would be freed and they would be able to enjoy it more, this would make the experience more pleasurable and also play a big part in them deciding whether or not they will watch the movie. But this is dependent on the person as their needs are individual and how satisfied with the trailer they will depend on the individual itself.
The way the shots are shown play a big part as this will mean that they use the best angles and shots to display the most enticing parts of the movie. This is seen in the trailer where lots of action is shown in shots to help show the audience what type of genre it is and so that the audience know if this movie is for them. Also this help to show off the narrative and the voice over helps explain what’s happening so that we get the general jest of what’s happening and why in the movie, so that the viewers don’t find it too complicated and hard to understand as this would alienate them from seeing the film.
What else is important is that the director is well known for his other movies and it says a couple of his best movies in the trailer, this is clever as it establishes a pre existing audience. What I mean is that people that have already seen his movies and have liked them will be willing and interested in seeing this movie as they would like to experience his work again or even just to compare it to his other movies.
Furthermore they way it shows the technology is amazing as its subtle but does not go unmissed, this is displayed in the effects that are shown in the trailer for instance they way it all looks so real and how imaginative it is, also how the director was able to create a whole new world that is so different from ours yet poses some similarities. This plays a big part in trying to persuade the audience to watch the movie as people will be blown away from how advanced the technology is and will want to see the movie.
Question 2
How are Humans and the Navi represented in the trailer?
Right from the beginning the Navi people are shown to be very peace full, as they don’t have any machinery but use animals and throughout the trailer they are not seen hurting anyone or anything. This is very different from how us Humans are represented as it shows us as very greedy and just out for money. It also shows that people are willing to kill to get what they want even though it’s not theirs to take. However they are shown as the superior type and the likely ones to win the war.
There are times in the trailer that make you think that human are represented as having no real human emotion, or sympathy this is because they have been very destructive to a peace full race. The Navi are very traditional and compared to people this is a good think, I think its representing today’s society and how we as a race have lost our traditional values and just care about money.
What’s interesting is that the villain is a human and you would expect the Navi to be the hero’s, but they are not; as a human has to save them. This conveys that although humans are the bad ones there is still good left in us and I think it is sending out a message that we need to look after people and not just bully others to get what we want.
Also the way the hero is a human and betrays its own race for another represents us in a good and bad way as although he is doing it for a good reason he has still betrayed the human race, so it gives out mixed messages but it is up to the audience to see it the way they want.
Also Humans are seen using guns a lot in this which is a phallic symbol. This is to show that they need the power. But what’s interesting is that the main character that’s a male is using a gun but the main female is not seen using one. This could convey that women don’t need a man to help them as she uses a cross bow and arrow.
Furthermore in the beginning it shows Earth and Pandora, both planets are half covered with darkness and the rest with light. This represents good and evil as both planets are shown to have good and bad sides. Also Pandora is much bigger than Earth and that could convey that Pandora as a whole is stronger than Earth or Humans.
